16 German federal states have agreed on the Fourth Interstate Treaty to make changes in gambling regulations in the country. This treaty was approved on March 12th.
According to the Treaty:
- Online gambling is to be regulated in the same way as land-based casinos
- The central regulatory authority will appear in the state of Saxony-Anhalt
New regulations will come into effect on July 1st, 2020.
“make Germany more attractive for operators and software providers”
This new betting legislation will make Germany more attractive for operators and software providers looking for a market without strict regulations. Nonetheless, some limitations will be introduced, including:
- No access to traditional online slot games, as only those releases that are like land-based machines, could be offered online
- The number of online gambling licenses in one state cannot be higher than the number of land-based licenses in the same state
- The total deposit per player is to be limited to €1,000 per month
- Certain advertising restrictions are to be implemented.
At the same time, Mr. Green is to pay £3m for regulatory failures in the United Kingdom.
