FDJ Reports a Successful Q1 of 2024

#BestInGaming

FDJ announces the results of the first quarter of 2024. The organization is happy with the start of the year and says everything is in line with the set goals. Thus, the revenue for this period is 710 million euros, which is up 7% compared to the first quarter of 2023.

There are plenty of factors for such a successful beginning of the year. Some of them are, of course, the increased number of retailers (there are more than 29,000 of them at the moment). Furthermore, the operator sees an increased interest in online gambling, which contributed to 15% of the total revenue.

LOTTERY TAKES THE LEAD

Lottery remains one of the main contributors to the gaming revenue in 2024. It has comprised €504m, which is almost 71% of the total revenue. It has increased by 1.4% if compared with Q1 of 2023. The change is not that significant, but it still shows a positive tendency.

If we look at lottery activities in more detail, we will see that the biggest increase (of 4%) was driven by instant games that saw the launch of Ticket d’Or (€5) at the beginning of January. Summing up about instant entertainment, gaming portfolio animation was truly successful in the first quarter.

Unfortunately, that could not be said about the draw games. They had an expected unfavorable base effect, so the revenue was down by 3%. If it was not for Amigo which featured the new formula launched at the beginning of June 2023, the overall revenue increase percentage for lotteries might have been higher.

MOMENTUM FOR ONLINE GAMBLING AND SPORTSBOOK

Gambling activities and sportsbook saw 9.5% increase in the revenue in the first quarter of 2024, so it comprised €141m. This impressive increase was achieved thanks to the contribution of ParionsSport En Ligne, as its revenue rose by over 25%.

A notable increase in revenue of online gambling (around 30%) marks another momentum for this type of entertainment. Such a soaring up of the interest to online betting and gambling leads to its major contribution to the revenue for casinos and sportsbooks. Thus, online gambling comprises 15% of the total revenue in Q1 of 2024.

This type of entertainment is not yet as popular as online lotteries, but they show a big potential for competitiveness in the future.

OTHER ACTIVITIES

We also see an impressive increase in revenue for other activities (International and Payment & Services). Thus, it was €37m in Q1 of 2023, and it rose by 77% in Q1 of 2024 (€65m). The integration of PLI is one of the main factors for this.

Gambling worldwide is currently affected by the tightening of the betting legislation and advertising ban in many countries. Thus, you might be interested in the recent changes in the UK and Australia.
