BGC Raised £15,000 for Charity in the United Kingdom
Charities across the United Kingdom will benefit from the funds raised by the Betting and Gaming Council (BGC). This happened thanks to the annual Grand National Charity Bet campaign. This event involved a horse racing competition with many parliamentarians making bets on the winner.
The campaign is finished with stunning results - over £15,000 was raised for charity, and they will be spent for good causes.
There were more than 50 parliamentarians making bets on Saturday’s Grand National via the UK’s biggest operators. All the winnings from those wagers will be handed over to the charities chosen by MP.
HOW WAGERING WENT
The winner of the race was 7/1 favorite I am Maximus that is owned by JP McManus. The horse was ridden by Paul Townend and trained by the legendary Willie Mullins. This victory was the first for Mullins after 9 long years. Previously the Grand National win was scooped by Hedge Hunter in 2015.
The list of parliamentarians who backed the winner were:

- Greg Smith MP
- Maria Caulfield MP
- Liam Kerr MSP
- Peter Aldous MP
- Preet Gill MP
At the same time, Bob Blackman MP won each way bet, as he had wagered on Ain’t That A Shame which came in sixth.
MP members were informed about responsible gambling while they were placing bets.
WHAT CHARITIES WILL RECEIVE THE MONEY?
In total, £15,115 was raised during the event. So far, the list of charities that will receive the money has not been announced yet. However, it is already stated that charities will receive at least £250 after BGC decided to support charities even if MPs' horses didn’t win.
The BGC was created in 2019, and since that time the institution has raised over £6 million for different charities.
OTHER DONATIONS IN GAMBLING
